February 29th - It's Leap Year

Pretty good couple of days leading to this twenty-ninth of February. Monday I made another receiver hitch for my truck. Yesterday I removed and re-built the trailer's third wheel support structure. Two days of cutting steel, welding, grinding, etc. Good fun for the guy my big son refers to as "The Patron Saint of Internal Combustion Vehicles," even though I didn't do anything with an internal combustion motor.

Today's kind of a cold, gloomy day, threatening every minute to rain and being generally difficult to work up enough ambition to do anything.

Sent my kids a Word of the Day. Fed the cats. Washed dishes from last night's dinner. Pretty humdrum stuff. Might try to do something useful tomorrow.

Not a bad day

Brought a load of household stuff from Hayward. Lots of boxes, a couple of bicycles, my lawnmower and three tubs of bricks to help fill in the pond in the yard. The good news is, I still have a lot of room in the storage trailer. The bad news is, I still have a lot of house to move from Hayward to Stockton.

This morning, my two sons loaded the old pickup with a lot of weeds and dead thistles from last Fall. When I had breakfast, I put more weeds in, then covered everything with a tarp. Lashed the tarp to the bed and my small son and I went to the tip. $18.50 later, I left the weeds, some dead pizza boxes and the old rug from the two closet room at the tip. We drove south on Union Road to Yosemite Road, then turned east looking for Autozone. Went too far, so we turned around and came back. There it was, right on Main Street, just south of Yosemite Road. That was the happy part. Autozone didn't have what I wanted- spring loaded rope hooks. So we just came home. I removed the door handle from the truck and drilled a through-hole. Put the handle back on, with a decent screw holding the handle on and repairing the stripped splines on the door opening mechanism. I struck out trying to fix the ignition switch. I took some measurements so I can build some side rails for the bed.

Probably go to Hayward tomorrow so I can keep packing boxes and moving house from Hayward to Stockton. Pretty slim pickings for a blog post, but that's all there is. Trash run, fixed the door handle and sketched side rails. Tonight's KOFY Creepy Movie is Lon Chaney in "The Indestructible Man." Vintage scenes of 1956 San Francisco don't make up for the unbelievable premise- an executed man comes back to life and begins taking revenge on lots of people.
